Subclass 190 Document Requirements
Once you receive state nomination and a visa invitation, you'll need comprehensive documentation. This guide covers all required documents for the two-step process: state nomination + visa application.

Step 1: State Nomination Documents
Each state has different requirements. Common documents include:
Basic State Nomination Documents
- Passport: Biographical pages showing identity
- Skills Assessment: Positive assessment for nominated occupation
- English Test Results: Recent IELTS/PTE/TOEFL scores
- EOI Screenshot: From SkillSelect showing your details
- CV/Resume: Detailed work history
State-Specific Additional Documents
Many states require job offers, current employment, or work experience in that state. Include contracts, offer letters, and employer verification.
Bank statements showing settlement funds (typically AUD $10,000-20,000).
Previous study in state, family in state, previous residence, or job offer from state employer.
Written statement explaining why you want to live in that state and your commitment to settling there.
Step 2: Essential Visa Application Documents
1. Identity Documents
Current passport (biographical pages) for you and all family members. Must be valid for at least 6 months.
Original or certified copy showing both parents' names.
If applicable in your country (both sides).
If applicable - original or certified copy.
If your name has changed (marriage, deed poll, etc.).
2. State Nomination Approval
Your state nomination approval letter or certificate from the state/territory government. This is mandatory and must be current (typically valid 6 months).
3. Skills Assessment
- Positive Skills Assessment from the relevant assessing authority
- Must be valid at time of invitation
- Must match your nominated occupation
- Same assessment submitted for state nomination
4. English Language Evidence
- Test Results: IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, OET, or Cambridge
- Must show all four components (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)
- Results must be less than 3 years old at time of invitation
- Must meet minimum Competent English requirement (IELTS 6.0 each band or equivalent)
5. Educational Qualifications
All degrees, diplomas, trade certificates you're claiming points for.
Complete transcripts showing subjects and grades for each qualification.
If applicable - VETASSESS or other educational assessment comparing your qualifications to Australian standards.
6. Work Experience Evidence
For EACH employment period you're claiming points for:
- Employment Contracts or offer letters
- Payslips (first, last, and representative samples - minimum 3-4 per year)
- Tax Returns or tax assessment notices
- Bank Statements showing salary deposits
- Reference Letters on company letterhead including:
- Your job title and duties (detailed)
- Employment dates (start and end)
- Hours worked per week (minimum 20 hours)
- Salary details
- Contact details of referee
- Organizational Chart (if available)
- Job Descriptions or duty statements
7. Police Clearance Certificates
- From every country you've lived in for 12+ months in the last 10 years
- Must be issued within 12 months of your visa application
- Include certified translation if not in English
- Australian Federal Police (AFP) check if you've lived in Australia
- Must cover all periods since age 16
8. Health Examinations
- Medical Examination (Form 26 or 502) - By approved panel physician only
- Chest X-ray (Form 160) - For applicants 11 years and older
- HIV Test - For applicants 15 years and older
- Additional tests if required based on medical history or occupation

9. Partner Skills Evidence (if claiming points)
If claiming partner points (5 or 10 points), provide:
- Partner's Skills Assessment - Positive assessment in occupation on same list
- Partner's English Test Results - Competent English minimum (IELTS 6.0 each)
- Partner's Age Evidence - Must be under 45
- Relationship Evidence - Marriage certificate or de facto relationship proof (12+ months)
- Partner's Passport
10. Australian Study Evidence (if claiming points)
- Degree/Diploma certificates
- Academic transcripts
- Completion letters from institution
- CRICOS confirmation of enrollment
- Evidence of physical attendance in Australia (not distance/online)
- Proof of at least 2 academic years (92 weeks)
11. Additional Points Evidence
Professional Year (if claiming):
- Certificate of Completion from approved provider
- Must show completion within last 4 years
- Must be in accounting, IT, or engineering
NAATI Accreditation (if claiming):
- NAATI credential certificate
- Must be at required level (paraprofessional or above)
STEM Qualification (if claiming):
- Master's by research or PhD certificate from Australian institution
- Transcripts showing STEM subjects
- CRICOS confirmation showing eligible field
Regional Study (if claiming):
- Proof of campus location in regional area
- Evidence of residence in regional area during studies
